Meet your Doula - Mika Parrish
My journey to becoming a Doula started with the birth of my first son. Just before I got pregnant with him I had an early miscarriage and received less than great care at a local Ob/Gyn office. It was after this experience that I sought out alternative models of care for my next pregnancy. Right away I found a Birth Center and had amazing care from the get go. I researched all things birth and became somewhat of a "birth nerd." I also hired a Doula whom I connected with and trusted. When it came time for the birth of my son, unexpected things happened, but with the help of my Doula, midwives and supportive husband, I had the birth I had dreamed of! I knew that there were so many women out there who weren't receiving the kind of care and attention they deserve through this life changing event that is Motherhood. I want to be a part of changing that and I feel that I am meant to do this work! I had my second son in 2020 in the water at Natural Beginnings and most recently my third precious son at home in the water in February 2023. My last two babies have been over 9 lbs and no tears - ask me about pushing and the pelvic floor connection!
I found in my own life the thought of being created to give birth; being made to Mother, to be a truth that brought me great comfort and the strength to push through in the throes of labor. The art of the Doula is primarily to Mother the woman as she becomes a Mother, and also to support the whole family in this beautiful transition. I tailor my care to your desires for your birth, depending on what kind of atmosphere you desire, family interaction, and type of physical support. I will be the facilitator of these factors so that all you and your partner have to do is focus on bringing your baby into the world. I am honored to serve alongside women, prenatal, birth and postpartum, as they go through this life changing journey.
Isaiah 43:1b-2 “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you.
